 FAQs

  • Somatic Healing asks our body for the story instead of retelling the story the mind is attached too.

While discovering the story, memory & history of our trauma, behavior and personality is very helpful and necessary…

Many people get to the “well I’ve been in therapy or know why I’m doing this but I’m not that different, I’m still doing the same things or react/am triggered to…”

Working somatically integrates the lessons above and focuses on the feeling & doing.

There will be talking but it’s not the same as in “talk therapy”

At first we will talk and get to know each other, you might share some stories about who you are.

Over time the sessions evolve, as you feel safer, and the embodied practices are the main things we’ll be up to.

During the practices we’ll communicate so you have the opportunity to safely express what’s been held inside and I’ll lend you to deeper understanding through informed questions.

We’ll talk again at the end of the session and help your your brain make sense of what it all meant.

  • feel - express - release - be

1-1 sessions are a collaborative, integrative & intuitive process based on how your body is feeling,
    maybe body is:
closed, warm, tense, teary, remembering, avoidant, busy, heavy etc

then we’ll listen to the sensation, grow our understanding of it and experiment with how it wants to be attended to or expressed
    maybe it wants to be:
held, moved, paid attention to, breathed with, expanded etc
    (memories likely pop up here)

how we meet the sensation, the feeling, the emotion, is how it heals, releases and transforms.

then we embody, act out, live the reality of the you that doesn’t have to operate from hurt, disregulation or history anymore.

Being you, clear, whole, open, free you.

  • Whether it’s overwhelming, chaotic numb or painful… everyone’s body presents differently.

We’ll work together slowly and gently to understand this discomfort, to meet your system where it’s at and not push the limits.

if slow and gentle are uncomfortable we’ll work with that too ;)

    -

the important thing here is we’ll meet you where you are at in this process and build trust there.

  • sessions are a combination of:

mindfulness, yoga/movement, game playing, somatic emotion release, breath work, sounding, embodied inquiry, energy work, pattern recognition & disruption, and meaning making

    fancier words:

Developmental Movement Theory, nervous system regulation, parts work, Somatic Integration and Processing, Integrative Somatic Trauma Therapy, Polyvagal Theory

we’ll talk through your questions and you can feel it out.
